Mr. Nelson handles environmental and land use cases for citizens. He also litigates matters in areas such as professional malpractice, contract disputes, property disputes, admiralty, negligence, product liability and other torts.
Mr. Nelson's land use and environmental practice has served citizens and community associations in urban, suburban, and agricultural areas. On these clients' behalf, he has litigated the enforcement of water quality, wetlands, forest preservation, noise and air quality regulations; the siting of rubblefills and quarry uses; the pollution of urban neighborhoods by industrial facilities; the development of rural land for non-agricultural uses; and the introduction of high-density uses in suburban neighborhoods. Formerly a partner at Anderson, Coe and King, where he handled medical malpractice defense as well as environmental matters, he now selectively handles medical malpractice cases for plaintiffs.
Since he opened his firm in 1997, Mr. Nelson has represented clients in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Geneva, Switzerland, the Maryland Court of Appeals, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, and circuit courts in many of the counties in Maryland. He has also represented clients before the Maryland Department of the Environment and numerous zoning agencies.
Mr. Nelson graduated from Haverford College and the University of Maryland School of Law. He has been licensed to practice law in Maryland since 1981. Martindale-Hubbell, the national directory of attorneys, has given Mr. Nelson its highest possible rating.
ANN MACNEILLE
Ann MacNeille, a graduate of Yale College and the University of Maryland School of Law, drafts briefs and contracts for the firm and other practitioners. She is currently a visiting faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Law. A member of the Maryland State Bar Association and officer of the Section on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar, she has been admitted to practice before the Maryland Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She is the author of Guide to Stopping Bad Development, published by 1000 Friends of Maryland.
PAUL DE SANTIS
After earning a bachelor's degree in Government from Franklin and Marshall College, Mr. De Santis graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law with an Environmental Law certificate. During law school, he worked for the National Wildlife Federation in the Endangered Habitats and Species Division. After law school, Mr. De Santis clerked on the Court of Special Appeals in Maryland for the Honorable Raymond Theme, III and the Honorable Clayton Greene, Jr. He established a solo law practice Bel Air, Maryland, working as an appellate advocate and then joined us in September 2006.
Mr. De Santis is admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals in Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. A member of the bar of the State of Maryland, he is an Organizing Member of the Animal Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association and a member of Civil Justice, Inc.
